Following is a sample of collaborations and partnerships
the Center for Youth Issues is involved in:
Alignment Nashville:
STARS serves on the middle and high school committees that provides
direction and coordination to the overall goals of Alignment Nashville;
also provides school-based prevention education on bullying prevention/harassment
to 5th and 6th graders in area middle schools; bullying prevention program
overviews are provided to area middle school teachers and staff.

Boys Scouts of America:
STARS delivers the Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life Character
Education curriculum at Wright Middle (2nd year of implementation) funded
by United Way of Middle Tennessee.

Bradford Health and Cumberland Heights Treatment
Centers: STARS specialists provide referrals for students needing levels of treatment
for adolescent abuse and dependency. Bradford Health and Cumberland
Heights also provide staff development to STARS specialists and STARS
Core Team members on warning signs of adolescent substance use and abuse
and when to make the referral.

Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth:
STARS specialists
and SEC participate in annual trainings and planning for activities
and events for promoting civic and youth leadership opportunities.

Metro-Davidson County Juvenile Court:
STARS specialists
serve youth who are referred by probation officers in individual and
group counseling and make referrals to outside service providers as
needed. STARS specialists provide a 2 hours Tobacco/Smoking Prevention
class to students who are court-ordered and attend a STARS school site……upon
completion, the student submits a certificate to the court of his/her
attendance.

Nashville Prevention Partnership:
STARS specialists serve
on the committee and work with African American males in the East Nashville
cluster to reduce those risks that contribute to school academic failure
and connectedness to school and community

United Way of Middle Tennessee:
STARS, the Alcohol and
Drug Council of Middle Tennessee (program: Youth Alive and Free), and
Domestic Violence Intervention Center (program: TeenPeace) work together
in 10 Metro Nashville Public Schools to provide prevention and intervention
services to reduce relational/domestic violence between students.
